SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of December 4-December 8, 2017, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, Parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish:

  1. John Cain, 19758 Vicknair Rd. Maurepas, LA., age 33, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 2 years at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  2. Ronald McKinney, 21866 Perrin Ferry Rd. Springfield, LA., age 28, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 24 months at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 24 months supervised probation.
  3. Joshua Williford, 19933 Buckhorn Dr. Zachary, LA., age 35, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 3 years at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  4. Jeffery Owens, 1542 Silverleaf St. Gonzales, LA., age 47, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 18 months at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation.
  5. Teodoro Matute, 38216 Debbie St. Prairieville, LA., age 49, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, 2nd Degree Battery, and Possession of Alcoholic Beverages in a Motor Vehicle. On the charges of Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and 2nd Degree Battery, the defendant was sentenced to 1 year at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count. On the charge of Possession of Alcoholic Beverages in a Motor Vehicle, the defendant was sentenced to 6 months in the parish jail with credit for time served. It was ordered that the imposed sentences are to run concurrent with one another.
  6. Vernon Therence, 1936 S Ruth St., Gonzales, LA., age 23, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 3 years at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.
  7. Katie Lessard, 12288 David Lessard St. St. Amant, LA., age 20, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. On the charge of Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance, the defendant was sentenced to 18 months at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. On the charge of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, the defendant was sentenced to 6 months in the parish jail with credit for time served. The imposed sentences are to run concurrent with one another. It was further ordered that the said sentence is to be suspended, and the defendant is to be placed on 18 months supervised probation.
  8. Jordan Paul Ballard, 3090 Lafaton Lane Port Allen, LA., age 24, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and Theft Valued at Less than $500. On the charge of Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance, the defendant was sentenced to 24 months at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. On the charge of Theft Valued at Less than $500, the defendant was sentenced to 6 months in the parish jail with credit for time served. The imposed sentences are to run concurrent with one another. It was further ordered that the said sentence is to be suspended, and the defendant is to be placed on 24 months supervised probation.
  9. Rodney Earl, 2228 S Burnside Ave. Gonzales, LA., age 28, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of Marijuana. On the charge of Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, the defendant was sentenced to 11 ½ months at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. On the charge of Possession of Marijuana, the defendant was sentenced to 6 months in the parish jail with credit for time served. It was ordered that the imposed sentences are to run concurrent with one another.
  10. Sedrick Turner, 620 Catalpa St. Donaldsonville, LA., age 31, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 24 months at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for times served, to be suspended, and placed on 24 months supervised probation.
  11. Christopher Westley, 35038 Hwy 1 N. Donaldsonville, LA., age 36, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 5 years at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.
  12. Jerel Williams, 307 N. Roscoe St. Gonzales, LA., age 29, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, Stopping, Standing, or Parking Prohibited in Specific Places, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting an Officer, and Possession of Marijuana. On the charge of Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, the defendant was sentenced to 18 months at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. On the charges of Stopping, Standing, or Parking Prohibited in Specific Places, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting an Officer, and Possession of Marijuana, the defendant was sentenced to 6 months in the parish jail on each count with credit for time served. The imposed sentences are to run concurrent with another. It was ordered that the said sentence is to be suspended, and the defendant is to be placed on 18 months supervised probation.
  13. Taylor Fredrick, 14054 Troy Duplessis Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 34, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 15 months at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 15 months supervised probation.
  14. Matthew Lynch, 39306 County Dr. Prairieville, LA., age 31, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and Unauthorized Entry of an Inhabited Dwelling. The defendant was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count, to run concurrent with one another.
  15. Justin Poche, 12997 Dove St. Maurepas, LA., age 24, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 4 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  16. Jason Templet, 2507 Township Rd. Donaldsonville, LA., age 40, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation.
  17. Matthew Collins, 2321 Ellis Merchant Rd. Moss Point, MS., age 38, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.
  18. Kenneth Toney, 310 S. Eastern Ave. Rayne, LA., age 31, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 12 months in the parish jail with credit for time served.
  19. Omar Zavala, 17872 Old Jefferson Hwy Prairieville, LA., age 38, pled guilty to Forgery (5 counts) and Theft Under $1,000. The defendant was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count, to run concurrent with one another. It was ordered that the said sentence is to be suspended, and the defendant is to be placed on 18 months supervised probation. In addition, the defendant is to pay restitution to the victims in this matter.
  20. Jeremy Harris, 515 Charles St. Donaldsonville, LA., age 31, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation.
  21. Cedric Jupiter, 317 W. Jeansonne St. Gonzales, LA., age 59, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 24 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 24 months supervised probation.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Charles “Chuck” Long and Robin O’Bannon. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Tess Stromberg.

Assumption Parish:

 

  1. Nicholas Singleton, 1216 Burnside Ave. Gonzales, LA., age 26, pled guilty to Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that 2 years of the said sentence are to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. Upon release, Singleton must register and notify as a sex offender or child predator.

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Alvin Turner Jr.

 

St. James Parish:

 

  1. Roy Mitchell Jr., 6418 Burton St. St. James, LA., age 31, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.
  2. Allen Joseph Noel, 2178 Church St. Vacherie, LA., age 43, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.
