On March 9, 2020, Richard Culler of 31941 Lower Rome Rd. Springfield, LA., age 46, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Culler was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Phil Maples, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Thomas Kliebert. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following a 2018 arrest.

On April 28, 2018, deputies with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted the Port Vincent Police Department with a vehicle pursuit which originated in the City of Port Vincent and ended in Ascension Parish. Upon apprehending the driver of the vehicle, who was identified as Richard Culler, deputies learned that the vehicle Culler was driving had been stolen out of Livingston Parish. Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle which yielded two firearms which were also stolen out of Livingston Parish. Deputies learned during a criminal history check that Culler had a prior felony conviction in Livingston Parish for Simple Burglary. Ascension Parish deputies transported Culler to the Ascension Parish Jail where he was booked on charges including Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charge, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, Culler was sentenced to 7 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

This guilty plea was in connection with charges in Ascension Parish only.
