Prairieville Man Pleads Guilty to Illegal Drug and Gun Possession

On last week, Kaleb Prettelt of 41003 Merritt Evans Rd. Prairieville, LA., age 33, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance. Prettelt was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Shawn Bush, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jessie LeBlanc. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following a report of a suspicious vehicle parked at a local business.

On October 13, 2016, officers with the Gonzales Police Department were dispatched to a Gonzales business in reference to a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle. One of the occupants who was identified as Kaleb Prettelt, exited the vehicle. During a brief interview with officers, Prettelt advised that he had a knife in his pocket. During a pat-down of Prettelt’s person for officer safety, officers located a quantity of heroin in his pant pockets. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located a 9mm handgun under the seat where Prettelt was seated. During a review of Prettelt’s criminal history, officers learned that Prettelt had a pair of prior felony convictions for Simple Robbery and Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance. Prettelt was placed under arrest and transported to the Ascension Parish Detention Center where he was booked accordingly.

Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charges, as per the plea agreement with prosecutors, Prettelt was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. The said sentence is to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
