Gonzales Man Pleads Guilty to Illegal Firearm Possession

On July 10, 2017, Geddrick Travis of 1214 Hempshire Ave. Gonzales, LA., age 24, pled guilty to the charge of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Travis was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Joni Buquoi, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following a 2015 traffic stop.

On November 6, 2015, officers with the Gonzales Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing the driver commit multiple traffic violations. Upon making contact with the driver of the vehicle, Geddrick Travis, officers learned that Travis had an outstanding bench warrant for a prior misdemeanor offense. Travis was then placed under arrest for the warrant. During an inventory search of the vehicle, prior to being towed, officers observed a loaded handgun in plain view on the passenger floor board. A criminal history check was conducted and revealed that Travis was a convicted felon. The gun was collected as evidence and Travis was subsequently booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.

Upon entering a guilty plea to the above mentioned charge, as per the plea agreement with prosecutors, Judge Verdigets ordered that Travis be committed to the Louisiana Department of Corrections for a period of 9 years at hard labor with credit for time served.
