Geismar Man Indicted in Connection with March Homicide

          On May 7, 2018, an Ascension Parish Grand Jury returned a True Bill of Indictment on Cedric Emerson of 6345 Hwy 75 Geismar, LA., age 35, on the charge of 2nd Degree Murder in connection with the shooting death of 36-year-old Frederick Patterson of Prairieville. 

          On March 11, 2018, deputies with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a Prairieville residence after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located a male subject suffering from a single gunshot wound. During the course of the investigation, Cedric Emerson was identified as a suspect. Emerson was apprehended shortly after and taken into custody. While at the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office awaiting transport to the parish jail, Emerson attempted to flee from detectives, but after a short foot chase was captured. Emerson was subsequently booked into the Ascension Parish Detention Center. 

          In addition to this indictment, Emerson also faces charges of Simple Escape, Illegal Use of Weapons, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Emerson remains incarcerated awaiting arraignment. Assistant District Attorney Steven Tureau is the lead prosecutor on this case.
