DOMESTIC VIOLENCE POLICY
It is the policy of District Attorney, Ricky Babin and his staff that all Domestic Violence Cases be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
We will NOT accept any requests to drop charges on Domestic Violence cases whether they are felonies or misdemeanors. A crime against anyone is inexcusable, especially when it involves a loved one.
A defendant who is arrested for a Domestic Violence act must defend his or her actions in a Court of Law regardless of whether or not the victim wishes to testify.
Domestic Violence is a growing problem. Our office is committed to doing everything possible to see that this problem is eliminated.
If you are a victim of Domestic Violence, we strongly urge you to see counseling and contact the Battered Women’s Program at (225) 644-4916. The District Attorney’s Office also has a Victim Assistance Program that can help you. Please contact them at (225) 473-2712 or (225) 473-6817. No one should have to suffer abuse! There is help. |
