SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of September 11-September 15, 2017, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, Parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish:

  1. Marlon Bennett, 112 N Roscoe Ave. Gonzales, LA., age 43, pled guilty to Theft Valued Over $5,000 but Less than $25,000 and Theft of a Motor Vehicle. The defendant was sentenced to 4 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections to be served on home incarceration. The defendant is to be supervised by Probation and Parole.
  2. Jonqualya Benton, 18186 Pinehurst Dr. Prairieville, LA., age 21, pled guilty to Negligent Homicide and Illegal Carrying of Weapons. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count. It was ordered that the imposed sentences are to run concurrent with one another. It was further ordered that the said sentence is to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
  3. Tony Craig, 1062 CR 47 Alvin TX., age 47, pled guilty to Theft Over $5,000 but Less than $25,000 and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.
  4. Johnny Everett, 42553 Hwy 42 Prairieville, LA., age 23, pled guilty to Unauthorized Use of a Moveable and Theft Valued at Less than $750. On the charge of Unauthorized Use of a Moveable, the defendant was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. On the charge of Theft Valued at Less than $750, the defendant was sentenced to 6 months in the parish jail with credit for time served. It was ordered that the imposed sentences are to run concurrent with one another.
  5. Devontae Smith, 1007 Peytavin St. Donaldsonville, LA., age 25, pled guilty to Obscenity and Auto Burglary (3 counts). On the charge of Obscenity, the defendant was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. On the charge of Auto Burglary, the defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count. It was ordered that the imposed sentences are to run concurrent with one another.
  6. Amber James, 10504 Hwy 22 St. Amant, LA., age 36, pled guilty to Resisting a Police Officer with Force or Violence and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.
  7. Trent Madere, 12343 Oak Brook Dr. Geismar, LA., age 22, pled guilty to Simple Burglary (2 counts) and was sentenced to 7 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count. It was ordered that the imposed sentences are to run concurrent with one another.
  8. Richard Gauthier, 307 Bourg St. Donaldsonville, LA., age 22, pled guilty to Possession or Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  9. Nicholas Edwards, 11117 Johnnie Mae Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 23, pled guilty to Attempted Theft Over $750 but Less Than $5,000 and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Phil Maples and Larry Buquoi. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Thomas Kliebert.

  1. Niame Sanders, 11232 Roddy Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 35, pled guilty  to 2nd Degree Battery and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  2. Gage Greaser, 15266 Hwy 44 Gonzales, LA., age 19, pled guilty to Simple Burglary (3 counts) and Resisting an Officer. On the charge of Simple Burglary, the defendant was sentenced to 4 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count. On the charge of Resisting an Officer, the defendant was sentenced to 6 months in the parish jail with credit for time served. It was ordered that the imposed sentences are to run concurrent with one another.
  3. Cory Johnsen, 45179 Stringer Bridge Rd. St. Amant, LA., age 24, pled guilty to Attempted Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 4 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  4. Tyewayne Morris, 11451 Hwy 431 St. Amant, LA., age 21, pled guilty to Simple Robbery (2 counts) and Battery of a Police Officer. On the first Simple Robbery count, the defendant was sentenced to 6.5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. On the second Simple Robbery count, the defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation. On the charge of Battery of a Police Officer, the defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation. It was ordered that the imposed sentences are to run consecutively to one another.
  5. Jerry Mendez, 2007 N Amelia Dr. Gonzales, LA., age 19, pled guilty to Vehicular Homicide and DWI 1st Offense. On the charge of Vehicular Homicide, the defendant was sentenced to 18 years at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that 13 years of the imposed sentence are to be suspended. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant is to be placed on 5 years supervised probation. On the charge of DWI 1st Offense, the defendant was sentenced to 6 months in the parish jail with credit for time served. It was further ordered that the imposed sentences are to run concurrent with one another.
  6. Lisa Snowten, 40472 Thais Rd. Prairieville, LA., age 50, pled guilty to Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and was sentenced to 5 years at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that 4 years of the imposed sentence are to be suspended, and the defendant is to be placed on 1 year home incarceration. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant is to be placed on 3 years supervised probation.
  7. Santana Bernard, 2211 S Robert Ave. Gonzales, LA., age 25, pled guilty to Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property and Aggravated 2nd Degree Battery. On the charge of Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, the defendant was sentenced to 7 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. On the charge of Aggravated 2nd Degree Battery, the defendant was sentenced to 13 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended. The imposed sentences are to be served consecutively to one another. Upon completion of the sentence for Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, the defendant is to be placed on 5 years supervised probation.
  8. Fabian Brown, 224 Blackwell Ln. Belle Rose, LA., age 30, pled guilty to Attempted Armed Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Possession or Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution. On the charge of Attempted Armed Robbery, the defendant was sentenced to 3.5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. On the charge of Conspiracy to Commit Possession or Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution, the defendant was sentenced to 1.5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that the imposed sentences are to run consecutively to one another.

Assumption Parish:

Assumption Parish had no court news to report this week.

St. James Parish:

  1. Jordan Simoneaux, 2904 S Bank Lane Vacherie, LA., age 31, pled guilty to Theft of Goods Valued at $1,500 or More and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.
