SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of October 9-October 13, 2017, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, Parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish:

  1. Jasun Beckman, 40176 Coontrap Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 29, pled guilty to Theft Valued at $1,000 or More, but Less than $5,000 and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation.
  2. Kaleb Avery, 41450 Glen Williams Rd. Gonzales, LA. age 19, pled guilty to Auto Burglary and Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count. The said sentences are to run concurrent with one another.
  3. Stephen Hawkins, 11634 W Sherwood Baton Rouge, LA., age 33, pled guilty to Theft of Goods Valued at $1,500 or More and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  4. Sylvester Paige, 107 St. Patrick St. Donaldsonville, LA., age 50, pled guilty to 2nd Degree Battery and was sentenced to 6 months in the parish jail with credit for time served.
  5. Brett Stewart, 21306 Albert Zeigler Rd. Livingston, LA., age 26, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 6 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.
  6. Jesse Cowart, 2228 S Burnside Ave. Gonzales, LA., age 25, pled guilty to Theft Valued at $1,000 or More, but Less than $5,000 and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.
  7. Terry Joseph, 416 Barcelona Dr. Donaldsonville, LA., age 18, pled guilty to Auto Burglary and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Joni Buquoi and Leila Braswell. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets.

 

  1. Shonta Bell, 114 Belle Rose Ln. Belle Rose, LA., age 41, pled guilty to Theft Values at $750 or More, but Less than $5,000 and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 1 year supervised probation.
  2. Parrish Norris, 7920 Winward Ct. New Orleans, LA., age 43, pled guilty to Principal to Illegal Possession of Stolen Things and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Phil Maples, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Thomas Kliebert.

 

Assumption Parish:

 

  1. Umeki Jamison, 136 E Little Texas Rd. Napoleonville, LA., age 38, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 12 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 12 months supervised probation.
  2. Douglas Miles, 412 Bunn St. Donaldsonville, LA., age 54, pled guilty to Possession or Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.
  3. Rudy Lyons, 436 Hwy 311 Schriever, LA., age 46, pled guilty to DWI 3rd Offense. Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation.
  4. Faron Coupel, 6698 Hwy 996 Belle Rose, LA., age 56, pled guilty to DWI 3rd Offense. Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation.
  5. Donald Brown, 1405 N Mckinley Alley Donaldsonville, LA., age 27, pled guilty to Aggravated Flight From an Officer and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Tess Stromberg.

 

St. James Parish:

  1. Joe Adams, 2683 N Courseault St. Lutcher, LA., age 50, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation.The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Adam Koenig, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jessie LeBlanc.
