SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of October 1-October 5, 2018, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish:

  1. Mark Melancon, 16288 Hwy 431 Prairieville, LA., age 33, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The defendant was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  2. Gary Robertson, 13170 Dutchtown Point Ave. Gonzales, LA., age 35, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and Theft Valued at Less than $1,000. The defendant was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  3. Toby Ragas, 11542 Stringer Bridge Rd. St. Amant, LA., age 48, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, Driving Under Suspension, No Insurance, No Tail Lights, Illegal Possession of Stolen Things, and Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation.
  4. Reginald Bell, 2408 Orice Roth Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 47, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation.
  5. Jamal Dunn, 1401 Bryant St. Donaldsonville, LA., age 22, pled guilty to Possession of a Legend Drug without Prescription or Order, Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation.
  6. Jamie Johnson, 38181 Angie Dr. Gonzales, LA., age 40, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation.
  7. Donald Miller, 37087 Cornerview Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 62, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 3 months in the Parish Jail with credit for time served.
  8. Todd Garnett, 3305 Ceasar Lane Donaldsonville, LA., age 37, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 36 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation.
  9. Rodney Carlson Jr., 39080 Little Creek Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 33, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule III Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The defendant was sentenced to 24 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 24 months supervised probation.
  10. Ryan Phelps, 43497 Norwood Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 37, pled guilty to Distribution of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Charles “Chuck” Long and Robin O’Bannon. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Tess Stromberg.

Assumption Parish:

Assumption Parish had no court news to report this week.

St. James Parish:

  1. Sean Bailey, 176 E 5th St. Edgard, LA., age 52, pled guilty to DWI 3rd Offense on April 19, 2018, and sentencing was deferred pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. On October 3, 2018, the defendant was sentenced to 4 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant is to be placed on 2 ½ years supervised probation.
  2. Ivory Luke, 2515 Church St. Vacherie, LA., age 28, pled guilty to 2nd Degree Battery and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.
