SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of November 12-November 16, 2018, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish:

  1. Brendan Babin, 37113 White Rd. Prairieville, LA., age 60, pled guilty to Aggravated Cruelty to Animals and was sentenced to 4 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 4 years home incarceration.
  2. Nelson Lewis, 8244 Pecan St. St. James, LA., age 25, pled guilty to Possession or Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution and was sentenced to 2 years in the parish jail with credit for time served.
  3. Christian Jason, 15022 Woodmoss St. Baton Rouge, LA., age 20, pled guilty to Theft of a Firearm and Simple Burglary. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  4. Tony Nguyen, 920 W Tony St. Gonzales, LA., age 20, pled guilty to Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Simple Burglary. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  5. Darren Bruno, 1124 S Arceneaux St. Prairieville, LA., age 50, pled guilty to Domestic Abuse Aggravated Assault and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  6. Tynari LeBlanc, 102 W 7th St. Donaldsonville, LA., age 21, pled guilty to Illegal Use of Weapons and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Shawn Bush and Phil Maples. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Thomas Kliebert.

  1. Jon Davies, 315 S Sammy St. Gonzales, LA., age 31, pled guilty to Simple Burglary (2 counts) and was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that 6 years of the said sentence are to be served, and the remaining 4 years are to be suspended. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant it to be placed on 3 years supervised probation.
  2. Carl Christy, 39056 James Dr. Prairieville, LA., age 71, pled guilty to DWI 3rd Offense. Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation.
  3. Obdulio Garcia, 5750 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, LA., age 25, pled guilty to DWI 3rd Offense and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  4. Brett Sonnier, 5303 Foreoche Rd. Port Allen, LA., age 56, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 1 year in the parish jail with credit for time served.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Joni Buquoi and Leila Braswell. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets.

Assumption Parish:

  1. Ronald Washington Jr., 159 Hwy 1014 Napoleonville, LA., age 22, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Tess Stromberg. 

 St. James Parish: 

  1. Cody Kinler, 2126 Gaudet St. Paulina, LA., age 36, pled guilty to 2nd Degree Battery and Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Adam Koenig, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jessie LeBlanc.
