SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of April 16-April 20, 2018, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish: 

  1. Brandon Payton, 212 Vatican Dr. Donaldsonville, LA., age 31, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance (2 counts), Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 17 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  2. Amanda Fruge, 46029 Richard Rd. St. Amant, LA., age 37, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Charles “Chuck” Long, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Tess Stromberg. 

  1. Thomas Dewey, 285 E 27th St. Reserve, LA., age 42, pled guilty to Attempted Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  2. Seth Vallet, 12322 Oak Brook Dr. Geismar, LA., age 26, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  3. David Diamond, 39542 Big Branch Dr. Ponchatoula, LA., age 41, pled guilty to Felony Theft and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.
  4. Jonathan Wilson, 57742 Barrow St. Plaquemine, LA., age 35, pled guilty to Stalking and Simple Assault. The defendant was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  5. On July 25, 2017, Nicholas Welton of 40449 Cross Ridge Ave. Gonzales, LA., age 37, pled guilty to DWI 3rd Offense. Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. On April 17, 2018, the defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that 1 year of the said sentence is to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. The remaining 4 years of the said sentence are to be suspended, and upon release from incarceration, the defendant is to be placed on 4 years supervised probation. T

Assumption Parish:

Assumption Parish had no court news to report this week.

 

St. James Parish:

  1. Zachery Mitchell, 10225 Legion St. Convent, LA., age 26, pled guilty to Unauthorized Entry of an Inhabited Dwelling and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.
  2. Sean Bailey, 176 E 5th St. Edgard, LA., age 51, pled guilty to DWI 3rd Offense. Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation.
