Darrow Man Pleads Guilty to Illegal Narcotics Possession

On April 3, 2018, Charles Smith of 5207 Seneca Dr. Darrow, LA., age 31, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance (3 counts), Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance. Smith was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Charles “Chuck” Long, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Tess Stromberg. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following a 2017 narcotics investigation.

On March 30, 2017, narcotics agents with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a Gonzales residence as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation. Upon making entry into the residence, agents immediately made contact with Charles Smith and a female subject identified as Ronnette Lawson. During the search of the residence, agents located quantities of Heroin, Cocaine, Marijuana, MDMA, Codeine, Xanax and legend drugs. Agents also located a large quantity of U.S. currency, a digital scale, and other miscellaneous items associated with the packaging and sale of illegal narcotics. Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Ascension Parish Jail where they were booked accordingly.

Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charges, as per the plea agreement with prosecutors, Judge Stromberg ordered that Smith be committed to the Louisiana Department of Corrections for a period of 10 years at hard labor with credit for time served.
