Dakota Theriot Indicted on 1st Degree Murder Charges in Ascension Parish

          On March 18, 2019, an Ascension Parish Grand Jury returned a true bill of indictment on 21-year-old Dakota Theriot for 2 counts of 1st Degree Murder in connection with the January shooting deaths of 50-year-old Elizabeth Theriot and 50-year-old Keith Theriot. The grand jury hearing was handled by District Attorney Ricky Babin, Assistant District Attorney Steven Tureau, and Assistant District Attorney Adam Koenig.  

          On January 26, 2019, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a Gonzales residence in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located Keith and Elizabeth Theriot suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to an area hospital where they were both pronounced deceased. Detectives were able to quickly identify the suspect as Dakota Theriot. Theriot was later apprehended in Virginia and was subsequently extradited back to Louisiana where he was booked into the Ascension Parish Detention Center.  

          Dakota Theriot will appear in court at a later date for arraignment.
