On May 7, 2018, Demetric Nelson Jr. of 111 Violet St. Thibodaux, LA., age 20, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance. Nelson was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Thomas Daigle, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jessie LeBlanc. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following a 2017 narcotics investigation.
On March 17, 2017, narcotics agents with the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the parish jail after jail staff received a suspicious package that had been dropped off for an inmate. Agents observed a bottle of skin lotion which had been tampered with prior to its arrival. The seal had been broken and the stem of the bottle had been cut. After further inspection of the bottle, agents located finger slots from surgical gloves submerged in the lotion containing tobacco and illegal narcotics including heroin. The subject who dropped off the package was identified as Demetric Nelson Jr. Nelson was subsequently arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center.
Upon entering a guilty plea to the above mentioned charge, as per the plea agreement with prosecutors, Nelson was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
